From Korea to the White Earth Indian Reservation
Join us to hear Dr. Mitch Berg talk about his many experiences, both as an adopted Korean-American and now as the City Administrator of the Minnesota City of Mahnomen on the White Earth Indian Reservation. Dr. Berg is focused on innovating the public administration profession and recently received his doctorate therein. The abstract for his dissertation thesis, entitled "Exploring Tribal, County, and Municipal Cooperation in Minnesota" includes the following: "The need for tribal, county, and municipal cooperation is ever more important now as political dysfunctionality, partisan gridlock, and federal and state devolution are pushing complex societal problems to be resolved at the local level. However, the desire for tribes and non-tribal local governments to cooperate can be limiting given the past historic indifferences and barriers to cooperation." This need to help tribes and municipalities form better relationships inspires Dr. Berg to pursue this line of work in his roles as City Administrator, instructor, mentor, and specialist in the field of community development, DEI, and tribal intergovernmental relations.
