Part of students re-engaging requires us to be able to talk about the effects of the pandemic and normalize struggle. If we don't talk about it, this will be a long-term traumatizing event. I just submitted an article to TWS on why conservation needs to be trauma-informed and this is a part of it.
Mark C Hove
01:30:19
Interesting, thanks Michelle
Bill Severud (he | him)
01:30:27
Thank you Michelle
Kyle Daly
01:30:29
Thanks Michelle!
Nicole Davros (she/her)
01:31:21
Looking forward to reading that article, Michelle!
Nicole Davros (she/her)
01:31:46
That is really cool!
John P Loegering
01:32:29
YES Michelle! None of us got into wildlife to be mental health counselors (good heaven's I didn't) but we all are going to need to be more aware of mental health issues and be sensitive to where everyone is as we 'recover' and move to the new normal.
Joey Riley
01:32:47
Thank you, Michelle. Since we are looking for alternative ways to support students, it would be amazing to consider ways to discuss and improve student mental health.

I would love to have a chat with my fellow MN about this topic of wellbeing and what it means for workplace. Drop me a private PM here is you are interested in a 1 hour chat about the topic so I know how best to take this back out to the entire membership/field. I find MN is well ahead of many with regard to this.
Martha Minchak (she/her/hers/birdbrain)
01:34:49
Wow! Thanks Michelle! Very much needed in our profession and elsewhere!
Brian Hiller
01:35:28
Agreed. This might be a good topic for a webinar style presentation later this spring.
Martha Minchak (she/her/hers/birdbrain)
01:38:36

Lisa, I just sent it to you
Nicole Davros (she/her)
01:44:26
There will be lots of little ways that folks can get involved with our DEI efforts. Our forthcoming action plan/roadmap will outline some of those ways. Stay tuned!
Joey Riley

Thanks Bill! Also Lisa, I'll get an e-mail out the volunteers ASAP to provide a summary

Terrific work on the awards ceremony last night
Nicole Davros (she/her)
01:59:47
Congrats to all the award winners! And Steve - inquiring minds want to know - will your intro video be available for us to view again???
Mark C Hove
01:59:47
Yeah, that was great, Steve
Bill Severud (he | him)
02:02:11
NO WE DID NOT
Mark C Hove
02:02:19
Lol, Bill
Michelle Doerr
02:07:04
Thanks Bill - you will definitely be missed here in MN.
Martha Minchak (she/her/hers/birdbrain)
02:07:27
Wow! Thanks all, for your dedication to keeping our chapter rolling and functioning.
Steve Windels
02:07:55
Nicole, I will share the link to the Steve on the Street video with the MNTWS GoogleGroup, but the whole awards ceremony was recorded on Zoom and will be made available on the MNTWS website at some point
Nicole Davros (she/her)
02:10:16
Kudos to everyone, particularly Bruce and Brian, for pivoting to a virtual meeting with so little time! Thank you for your efforts.
Martha Minchak (she/her/hers/birdbrain)
02:13:39
Thanks Brian, for all you have done and continue to do for our chapter and state! Thanks to Kyle and Bruce, for pulling off this meeting. I very much appreciate your work and dedication to our chapter.
1-Charlotte Roy
02:16:12
Sounds great Nicole and Kristin! Looking forward to it!
Michelle Doerr
02:16:20
Have to head out. Thanks everyone for their efforts. This is an awesome chapter working hard to stay ahead of the happenings in wildlife. Looking forward to the rest of the conference.
John P Loegering
02:17:46
It has existed for at least 15 years - since my start in MnTWS
Tony Hewitt
02:18:22
It's been brought up at most membership meetings, but rarely been requested
Molly Tranel Nelson
02:19:00
Seems like the only ones who know about it are the ones already involved.
Sara Vacek
02:19:25
I've never heard about it. I would think it would be a great incentive for some of the younger professionals
Jess Piispanen
02:19:27
I didn't know it existed when I was board member a few years ago.
John P Loegering
02:21:11
I think the issue is that it is stated in the bylaws & operations manual …. and how many people read them! :)
Kristin Hall
02:23:11
I agree Nicole - AND the board is supportive and understanding when life does get busy
David E Andersen
02:24:35
Seems like summarizing some of this and including it in outreach to the membership might be a good idea for the email communication that Brian discussed earlier.
Liz Rasmussen
02:27:15
Agreed Sara - thanks for making this point
John P Loegering
02:28:40
With DEA, I think a summary of the commitments and benefits would be helpful. My experience with 'young' professionals suggest there is reluctance to jump first into commitments with an unknown commitment. We need to assure them they can do it!
Raena Kemna
02:29:03
I have to run and take an exam. Thank you for the invitation today. Amazing to see the hard work and dedication that you all put in to this society!
Mark C Hove
02:29:05
Good point, John
Thomson Soule
02:29:06
It might be helpful to review rethink what Proferssionalism entails. More thasn publishing?
Bill Severud (he | him)
02:30:00
Agree with Thom. I publish, but not all members do
Martha Minchak (she/her/hers/birdbrain)
02:30:28
Good point Thom!
Bill Severud (he | him)
02:32:18
I'll miss the chapter! Thanks all!
Mark C Hove
02:32:29
Best wishes, Bill!
John P Loegering
02:32:40
Really best wishes Bill. All the best!!!
Jacob Haus
02:32:43
You'll be missed Bill!
Kyle Daly
02:32:43
Thank you all!
Nicole Davros (she/her)
02:32:47
Thank you for all your service, Bill! We will miss you for sure.
Steve Windels
02:32:51
