For our understanding, how does the work of RealTime Talent differ or add-to to the work of the state demographer's office and the MnDEED Labor Market Information office?

Can you share a link to the article/study that named MN as having the worst talent shortage in the nation?

When you think about the current economic situation in your community, which of the following career fields do you feel has the most challenging or pressing workforce needs to be addressed right now? (select up to two)
Deb Broberg, RealTime Talent
44:29
@Marney - thx for the question. We bring in much of the same data sets/sources and work in collaboration with both agencies to lift up the landscape on a current/real time basis. We also leverage data tools that speak to the demand side and have become well versed on the nuances regionally, especially as it pertains to candidate profiles in the local markets relative to employer demand -

All, please know Erin is lifting up highlights and I would suggest there is much more detail available in the reports that will be available for your further review. Consider it a teaser to peak your curiosity. It's much to digest but very informative and I'm confident worth your time to dig into the detail based upon the work you do and the ecosystem impacts you have in your role.

Hi Erin, I was wondering why some of the teacher stats stated except CTE teachers.
Heather Hogen
01:28:05
I was wondering the same about the exception for CTE teachers.
Julia Diaz, RealTime Talent, (She/Her)
01:31:05
Thank you for this question - it means that it is referencing secondary teachers, but doesn't include special education or CTE teachers.
Julia Diaz, RealTime Talent, (She/Her)

01:36:07
What piece of the data surprised, inspired, validated, or challenged you?
Marney Curfman
01:36:22
The clearly broken systems.
Kathleen Gordon
01:36:27
The software developer occupation confirms findings that I've heard.
Maddy Fisher
01:36:29
The US Chamber paper you referenced! 44 unemployed folks for every 100 jobs in MN.
Sally Reynolds
01:36:46
How we will be able to work together in MN to address these issues.
Jenny Moore
01:36:49
Most surprising for me (even though I'm a RTT employee) is the unemployment rate, most inspiring for CTE programs is that they can continue to focus on gateway occupations and make a difference for MN
Stephen Harper
01:37:15
I was inspired and validated by the zipcode and demographic breakdown showing that workforce equity is a statewide goal, not just a metro area concern.
Deb Broberg, RealTime Talent
01:37:36
@Stephen - really important point!
Julia Diaz, RealTime Talent, (She/Her)
01:37:43
Thank you all for sharing!
Marney Curfman
01:37:43
I'd like to hear more about research and recommendations for those broken systems. I hear and see the sounds bytes or highlights from the media, but would enjoy hearing more from RealTime's SME's on it.
Lael Booth
01:37:50
I would like to know how many students or people of color (African Americans)are included in this data for unemployment and what is the goal/strategy for getting more involved?
Maddy Fisher
01:39:06
Continuing to drive home the difference between our need for replacement in roles as well as growing demand.
Matthew Miller
01:39:10
Is there data on citizenship status and how it effects career pathways?
Sally Reynolds
01:39:30
And how do the higher "locked out" communities in unemployment related to our public education system?
Matthew Miller
01:40:49
thanks
Karl Ohrn
01:41:05
Interesting--MN has a highly educated population compared to other states, yet our students are performing at low levels in comparison to other states (i.e., math & reading).
Sally Reynolds
01:41:30
Good point, Karl
Marney Curfman
01:41:39
One thing we're hearing from MnDOT supervisors is the importance of reaching high school age talent. Of course, more generally we know that attempting to reach those who've been systematically and structurally kept out populations is key.
Julia Diaz, RealTime Talent, (She/Her)
01:43:33
From your perspective, what are the most important considerations in these data for Career and Technical Education programs?
Dan Solomon
01:44:40
Exploring more opportunities for CTE students to earn industry recognized credentials / certificates while doing CTE education programming
Lael Booth
01:44:44
Consistent communication from employers to schools about CTE opportunities. More informational fairs, summits, etc.
Betty Yang
01:44:53
Building an identity at a young age in different fields in CTE i.e. IT
Stephen Harper
01:45:10
Regionally data driven alignment of programs to need so we can address award disparities. Especially in a time of low higher ed enrollment - maybe making hard choices on what programs are grown and which might need to be sunset.
Kathleen Gordon
01:45:30
I think this brings to light the importance of going into younger grades in elementary school for career exploration to ensure students know what jobs may be out there.
Marney Curfman
01:45:48
Connecting professionals with CTE students in one way or another. Career day talks, school-to-work programs, one-on-one chats, events-(like EPIC in CentralMN) pen pals, etc.
Lael Booth
01:46:04
Develop Plans with targeting certain ethnic groups to include and keep from inequities. OJT paid, training and certifications…etc
Cyndi Camarillo
01:46:44
Providing career paths and providing the training and education as part of the job duties.
Jenny Moore
01:46:46
supporting school districts to invest in human capital so that the work can be done on the front lines
Sally Reynolds
01:48:35
Collaboration across communities, industries, state agencies and all educational orgs
Kathleen Gordon
01:48:37
Thanks so much for this vital information. Great work!
Lael Booth
01:48:44

Lael Booth
01:50:20
Bring som of the training programs (OJT) in the schools with low SES and high minority populations.
