For my understanding, it’s an English test to see which courses to start you with.

It depends on your TOEFL, SAT and other scores. There is an English and Math placement test just to gauge your mastery over those subjects to place you into courses. Not everyone has to take them. If you’re a transfer student with some courses transferred, you may be exempted

Hi Jacob. I am Swapanth from India. I got an admission for jan. My first visa got rejected and now for the second time I am trying to book the slot. we are able to see the slots in the portal but we are unable to book the slots. Can we get any suggestion form your side to book the slot?

Hi Swapanth--it's difficult to say, since each U.S. embassy/consulate is unique, and this sounds like this could simply be a logistical issue with their booking system. I would recommend contacting the embassy/consulate to see what you can do. I'd also recommend connecting with others in your area who are applying for F-1 visas to see if they are experiencing a similar issue
